Call for Images needing Restoration

Hi friends!

It’s been a wild ride the last little while! There have been some major developments which has been a nice change of pace.

I have applied for a solo exhibition!

There is a local gallery looking for work to exhibit from self-taught photographers with lived experience in mental illness. Given that I literally just published a book about it less than a year ago, I thought it was worth giving a try!

I should hear about whether or not I was selected by the first week of April. If I get selected, my work will be featured there during the month of May, and will also be up for sale!

I will provide more details should I receive some good news.

Huge News: I’m Working on Accreditation!

As some of you may know, I am a member of an organization called Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC for short). As such, I’ve been working for some time on becoming a full-fledged, accredited member in good standing. To do this, you need to submit and have 10 images approved which showcase your skills in one of over 80 different categories of photography. I am currently working on my Image Restoration certification, and have aspirations to eventually achieve CPA status.

To do this successfully, though, I need your help!

I am seeking samples of aged, damaged, faded, or images otherwise needing repair, colour adjustments, and other such assistance to come back to life.

I will scan your print at a high resolution using my Epson v850 flatbed scanner so that you can have your beloved prints returned to you as shortly as 15 minutes from when you provide it to me! Once that is done, I will go to work in Photoshop, repairing physical issues such as stains, creases, even tears — as well as colour issues including toning, saturation, contrast, and/or detail loss. My endeavour is to restore your image to its original condition, or as near to it as is possible to do using computer software.

As compensation for you entrusting your nearest and dearest to me, I will provide you with a print of your revived image!

Please check out these samples of work I have already done to get an idea of what I mean. If you have any questions, please reach out to me and I would be delighted to speak to you about it.

So as you can see, I’ve been up to a bunch of fun stuff!

It’s been a fantastic learning experience. I’ve been learning how to use Photoshop much more effectively than I ever have before, and I’m only sorry that it literally took THIS LONG to climb the learning curve! I definitely will be shying away less often when it comes to playing with images and seeing what I can do with them!

In addition, once the rain clears I will be going out with my film cameras again, as I have a bunch of rolls of film that will be VERY grateful to be used up!

Do you know of a non-profit who needs new photos done of their staff? Executive team? Board of Directors?

Please send them my way!

For non-profits that specifically focus their work towards the Vancouver Downtown Eastside, I now offer a unique promotion: Headshots and Team-shots by-donation!

Alternatively — Have you considered sponsoring a non-profit of your choice for new images? Please reach out or make a donation, and I will ensure the funds go directly towards making magic happen.

((Pssst… in case you didn’t know, the odds of non-profits securing funding for team photos, event photography, and staff headshots is next to nothing. Very few donors/funders/partner agencies/institutions provide funding for “aesthetics” such as photography of NPO staff, teams, spaces, drop-ins, and so forth. Making donations to photographers in honour of your non-profit can make a significant and positive difference for the NPO of your choice!))

Thank you so much for your support, everyone! I look forward to sharing more images with you soon.

P.S. Please don’t forget to subscribe to our mailing list (the form is below — all we require is your email address!),

P.P.S. Consider becoming a patron of Carrie Hill Creative! Monthly subscriptions begin as low as $2/month, and 100% of all proceeds go towards creating more art for you to enjoy.
