Today is the International Transgender Day of Visibility.

Today is the International Trans Day of Visibility.

I am non-binary and genderqueer, which means that my gender identity falls under the trans umbrella. And I have to level with you: Being trans is really hard for damn near every trans person, but ESPECIALLY for BIPOC & racialized trans people. And it's been a hell of a start to 2023 so far, with so much hate legislation being pushed in multiple states across the USA. Anti-2SLGBTQIA violence here on Turtle Island-Canada is already on the rise as a result.

Trans rights are human rights. We are not sub-human. We are not animals. We deserve to have the same basic rights and dignities as cisgender people. We all deserve to live our truth without fear of persecution -- or worse.

Protect your trans siblings. Protect trans kids. Protect trans women. Protect trans men. But especially, protect BIPOC and racialized trans people. They bear the brunt of discrimination, micro-aggressions, systemic violence, and overt violence in virtually every community and it has to stop. Solidarity and unified action is the greatest form of resistance against systemic oppression.

We have always been here, and we will continue to always be here. Consider which side of history you want to end up on.
